On the inside of Visby's city wall today is Gotland's brewery. Gotlands Bryggeri is a subsidiary of Spendrups which was founded in 1995.
Spendrups is a family-owned company which was founded in 1897 and their breweries are today in several locations in Sweden: Grängesberg, Hällefors, Vårby and Visby. The group includes several subsidiaries with their own brands, of which Gotlands Bryggeri is one of them.
In 2017, it was decided that a new brewery would be built in Visby. Since then, the project work has been ongoing, where one of the challenges has been the location of the brewery. The building permit process has taken many years, but in 2021 the building permit was approved and in February this year the first sod was turned. The construction production of the new brewery is now underway on Klinten above the ferry route, with a view of southern Visby and the harbor entrance.
A good location with proximity to the current brewery and the harbor. The production of beer is expected to be operational in the first quarter of next year. When the new brewery is ready, it is expected to have a production capacity of just over two million liters of beer per year.
Peikko is the supplier of DELTABEAM® Slim Floor Structure that been used in the loft joist on the new hall. The building will be 1150 m2 in size with sections of glass on side parts of the building with a steel frame and hollow core. The flexibility of DELTABEAM® has made it possible to adapt the position of the steel columns based on the logistics in the brewery. By replacing conventional steel profiles with DELTABEAM®, which are laterally connected in the same level, it has been possible to save space between floors.
In the collaboration, a slim floor structure with optimized construction with optimized collaboration that the amount of steel has been reduced compared to a solution with other steel profiles, which can be a positive contribution to Spendrup's sustainability goal of reducing the greenhouse gas emissions.
